a holiday song for my son
S.A.N.T.A. (Santa Claus Christmas Song) by Christopher Mihy
One day, when my son was around 7 or 8 years old, he came home very upset. “All the kids are destroying the story of Santa and laughing at me!” he explained.
This was devastating, both to him and to me. As a European dad, I was brought up celebrating St. Nicholas—an amazing man who gave presents to underprivileged children. They were not expensive gifts, but they brought joy to the kids. He did it all in secret, making sure no one saw him. The whole idea wasn’t about the toys; it was about giving them to make children happy.
My childhood home was always decorated, and the Christmas spirit was well alive. The same could be said for my own home with my own children. Of course, they were toys under the tree, but not in abundance and definitely not expensive. In fact, most of them were games we could all share, in the spirit of Christmas.
I sat my son down to talk to him. “You shouldn’t look at Santa as a living person but as a beautiful spirit,” I explained. “The spirit of Christmas: giving, loving, family togetherness, great food, and a lot of fun. Santa is more than a figure; he’s an idea that should always be part of it in your heart.”
To cheer him up, I wrote a few musical lines for him. To my surprise, it worked! And that gave birth to this Santa Claus Christmas song, and I hope that it will resonate in the hearts of all kids, just as it did so long ago in my own son’s.
For the last thirty years, starting in August and every month after until December, I ask the same question, “Guess who’s coming?” It has been an ongoing joke in my family, but the meaning is still true: IT’S CHRISTMAS AND HE IS COMING!!!

lyrics
Good morning, Santa Claus
Sorry to bother you
It is for a great cause
I need to talk to you
The world is going nuts
People are losing faith
But deep down in my guts
Everything will be great
Since I was a small kid
All those non-believers
They told me to get rid
Of Santa forever
My memories are dear
Carols, jingles and elves
And Rudolf the reindeer
The joy among ourselves
Rejoice everyone
HE IS on his way
There is only one
S.A.N.T.A.
The whole world is changing
We do not laugh as much
All our dreams are fading
We are losing our touch
I want my Christmas back
All those smiling faces
There is no time to slack
No more sad grimaces
It’s not about money
It’s about fun and joy
The beautiful journey
That all kids will enjoy
There’s no prettier smile
On shiny cute faces
All that greed is futile
Santa’s for the ages
Rejoice everyone
HE IS on his way
There is only one
S.A.N.T.A.
Your great past is divine
A good man to a saint
It is hard to define
All the good that you meant
You were Saint Nicholas
Kris Kringle as well
Even Father Christmas
Or the French Pere Noel
You bring us so much joy
Santa, we’re all to blame
We made it ‘bout the toys
We should all be ashamed
He is making that list
And checking it twice
If he’s gonna visit
We better all be nice
Rejoice everyone
HE IS on his way
There is only one
S.A.N.T.A.
To me Santa is dear
With the beard and the sleigh
The beautiful reindeers
And toys for kids to play
I’m telling you my friends
It’s time to reacquaint
To a great holly man
Who once became a saint
I know you will fly by
Led by someone who’s dear
On your sleigh guided by
Rudolf red noise reindeer
And when everything fails
We should never forget
The one man who prevails
Santa, that’s no secret
Rejoice everyone
HE IS on his way
There is only one
S.A.N.T.A.
They'll never be a Christmas
Where you're not part of it
Our path will always cross
There’s no doubt about it
Been waiting all year long
That heavenly music
Those memorizing songs
With beautiful lyrics
That’s what Christmas is for
The joy, fun and above
What we are looking for
Is somebody to love
I said it all my life
For everyone to know
No better cheer in life
That Santa’s Ho Ho Ho
Rejoice everyone
HE IS on his way
There is only one
